Dominik Pegler: Diary Extracts (2016-2018)

This therapeutic project explores the role of the camera as well as the burden of one's own expectations

This project was therapeutic in nature and served to get back into photography after many years and break down old, inhibiting patterns. For this purpose I got myself one of the most basic and simplest cameras that I was able to have always in my pocket from then on: a fist-sized piece of plastic that fits a roll of 35mm film. I think the role of the camera is overstated most of the time, but it does play a big part in some aspects that are perhaps under-appreciated. A big, heavy and expensive camera can sometimes be a burden - not just physically - and raise expectations of yourself. This change helped me to take myself and my photographs less seriously and just start taking pictures more often without thinking too much about it.
